Unpopped Popcorn

I must say I was highly disappointed with today's New. I thought it would be so cool and weird, but it was definitely a huge let down. But I'm getting ahead of myself; let me start from the beginning.

A while back I saw this news story about how there are a lot of people that believe that excessive use of the cell phone could be linked to brain cancer because of the radiation that it puts out, (some people are such cowards when it comes to death and disease) but an extensive study has shown that this is not the case. Cell phones don't put out nearly enough radiation to cause any kind of damage at all.

I decided that this would be a good conversational piece that I could humor my dad with because he enjoys little weird facts such as this one.

"Hey Dad! You know how people are always paranoid about cell phones causing brain damage?" says I, "Well there was a study done on it and it isn't true at all!"

Well he did find it interesting, though he did expect as much because he's a wise man and draws conclusions very well. He goes on to tell me about how it is possible to pop popcorn with cell phones by having them in a circle around the kernel and having them call one another. The radiation between the phones is supposed to do the job.

"Really?!" says I, "That is fascinating! Are you sure that's true?" He confidently assures me that it is true! There are videos on the YouTube demonstrating such a thing.

I want to try! So I manage to collect several phones (I didn't steal) and found an appropriate popcorn kernel to use. We have the phones call each other and I stared so hard at that little kernel. I probably could have popped it with my stare. Then while I was staring at it, my roommate had to go and crush my dreams, “Its impossible, It was just a trick,” she found out on the internet. It didn't work. But how could it not work?! It makes perfect sense to me! But I guess they just doesn't put off enough radiation. Maybe if there were 100 phones, that could work! We definitely need Myth Busters on this, they could figure it out.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to count this New as a fail. But as least I know and won't be tricked like the Dad was, I was skeptical until I tried it out myself! That’s what the true wise people do! But although this was a fail I still came out on top for the day, my bathroom just got painted, courtesy of Luke Thornley and it looks top notch! And I also got in a good run for the day!

All in all I learned how not to pop popcorn. But I need to find a new way soon because our microwave is about to be buried soon, besides microwaves are old news
